The pickleball craze is getting the Stephen Colbert treatment, with charity the winner.

Colbert will host CBS’ “Pickled,” described as a sports-comedy special centered on a celebrity pickleball tournament. Among the players: Dierks Bentley, Will Ferrell, Emma Watson, Daniel Dae Kim, Max Greenfield, Luis Guzman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tig Notaro and Kelly Rowland.

Colbert and Kenny Loggins will join in a national-anthem duet for the two-hour special airing at 9 p.m. Eastern Nov. 17 on CBS. It will stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

Teams will compete to benefit nonprofit Comic Relief US, with viewers asked to contribute in support of programs that “address the life-altering impact of homelessness, rootlessness and lack of safety often experienced by children and families living in poverty,” the group said.

Cari Champion, John Michael Higgins and Bill Raftery will be among the announcers providing color commentary. Other players include Jaime Camil, Phil Keoghan, June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer, Aisha Tyler, Jimmie Allen and Murray Bartlett.

The special is from Colbert’s production company, Spartina, the independent studio Funny Or Die and CBS Studios. Funny or Die CEO Mike Farah said the goal is to support Comic Relief US and « add more articles about pickleball to everyone’s newsfeed.”

Pickleball, played with paddles on an indoor or outdoor court, has exploded in popularity in recent years. Groups that foster the sport include USA Pickleball, the International Federation of Pickleball and the World Pickleball Federation.

When Whoopi Goldberg was invited to help produce an Emmett Till project, the actor thought she knew all about the Black teenager’s 1955 kidnapping and lynching — until she learned about the surprising elements behind the historic tragedy.

After Goldberg dove deep into Till’s backstory, she and her production teammates Barbara Broccoli and Fred Zollo eagerly pitched movie ideas to several major studios. All eventually turned them down. It became discouraging at times, but after more than two decades of trying to get the project green lit, Hollywood finally took notice in their project following George Floyd’s death in 2020.

Goldberg said that’s when MGM’s Orion Pictures stepped up to financially support the development of “Till,” which opens in theaters Friday.

“People kind of hopped up and said, ‘Wait a minute, this is not okay with any of us,’” Goldberg recalled after the killing of Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee into his neck for several minutes. She said Floyd’s death struck a chord throughout the U.S. the same way Till’s lynching created public uproar 60-plus years ago.

“Corporations started to pay attention,” said Goldberg, who added that she’s been connected to project long enough for her to go from being a “young woman with a kid” to now a grandmother. « Orion said ’Listen, we do want to tell this story. We want to help you tell this story. We’ve been waiting a long time.”

Goldberg said several directors were interviewed, but they were easily won over by Chinonye Chukwu — who wanted to primarily focus her film on Mamie Till-Mobley, the mother of Emmett Till. The new movie follows the true and untold story of Till-Mobley, whose decision to publicize her 14-year-old son’s brutal death for whistling at a white woman in Mississippi helped spark the civil rights movement.

“Without Mamie, the world wouldn’t know who Emmett Till was, and she is the heartbeat of the story,” said the director, who called Till-Mobley a “warrior for justice” while she combatted racism, sexism and misogyny in wake of her son’s killing.

Chukwu said she had unconditional support from Goldberg, who said the director was an obvious fit.

“(Goldberg) constantly communicated her unwavering belief in my artistry and my abilities to be able to tell this story in a way that it needed to be told,” said Chukwu, who directed the 2019 drama “Clemency” starring Alfre Woodard. “That kind of support made me feel so seen as an artist, as a human being, and as a Black woman. I will never forget that kind of support.”

Chukwu co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Reilly and Keith Beauchamp — a filmmaker best known for his extensive research behind Till’s abduction. His 2005 documentary “The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till” played a major role in the U.S. Department of Justice’s decision to reopen the Till investigation.

Beauchamp became friends with Till-Mobley, who was a mentor to him before she died in 2003. His work laid the foundation for Chukwu, who called Beauchamp a “treasure trove” of information and research in telling her cinematic story.

“It was incredible for myself to learn more about who she was as a person,” she said. “The many aspects of her life — with her girlfriends, with her man, with her church, at work, with her mother and a community of people who were so critical to her world. I learned so much about that. I knew audiences will learn a lot about that too along with the other people involved in the story.”

Chukwu felt the need to focus on Till-Mobley’s emotional journey, but she wanted to also explore how Till’s death impacted his other family members, like his young cousins who witnessed his kidnapping. She made an effort to recreate “real character driven moments” in two-person scenes.

“I just wanted to add more layers to the complexity of their relationships and the positions that they were in, in the story and in the world,” she said. “It was great to unpack that, those layers and emotional subtext with the actors as well.”

Danielle Deadwyler, who stars as Till-Mobley, applauded Chukwu’s storytelling along with Beauchamp’s ability to “access the truth.” She commended Goldberg and other producers for staying diligent.

“This is something Mamie wanted done since around 1955. It’s about her seeking to tell this story, » Deadwyler said. “The work that Chinoye and I did together in preparing through rigorous research of visual and academic, in just giving ourselves over to this grave task, that’s what this experience has been and what we hope to share.”

Goldberg, who portrays Till’s grandmother Alma Carthan, said she’s open to the idea of exploring more films that deal with racial struggles.

“I will produce as many things as we can get made,” she said. “You know, Black people go in and out of popularity, so you got to hit while the iron is hot.”

« While I’m feeling the usual symptoms, I hope to make a quick recovery. »

Ryan then urged his followers to help alleviate his boredom by recommending some TV shows for him to watch.

He added: « I’ll be in bed watching TV this week so please let me know if you have any recommendations (especially for any foodie shows!)(sic) »

Meanwhile, Ryan previously spoke of how he has a difficult relationship with food after being « teased » for being overweight as a child.

He said: « I was teased for it, and I will always see that little boy when I look in the mirror.

« I cannot get past it, I’ve talked to our experts about it, but for some reason, I just cannot see that guy. »

Co-host Kelly Ripa replied: « I understand, the things you are teased about as a kid, they haunt you for the rest of your life. You take them with you for the rest of your life.

She said: « You spend a great deal of time fixating on what you’re eating and what you’re not eating and when you’re eating and how much you’re eating and how many times of day you’re eating. »

Bill Murray reportedly paid a « much younger » production assistant $100,000 after being accused of « inappropriate behaviour. »

The 72-year-old actor’s film ‘Being Mortal’ shut down production in April after an allegation was made against him, and a new report has alleged the ‘Groundhog Day’ star grabbed the unnamed woman near a production bed, kissed her on the mouth – though both were wearing face masks due to COVID-19 protocols – and kissed her body while « straddling her. »

According to Puck, “the woman interpreted his actions as entirely sexual” and was “horrified” by the actor’s alleged conduct, which was also reported by a second staff member, who witnessed the alleged incident.

Sources told the outlet Murray settled the claim out of court for $100,000 in exchange for the woman – who was said to have been « particularly friendly » with the actor – agreeing to maintain confidentiality and giving up her rights to later sue the producers of the film, Searchlight, and Disney.

The ‘French Dispatch’ star previously claimed he had « done something [he] thought was funny » on the set of the film and hoped to « make peace » with the woman.

He said: « I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way.

“The company, the movie studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out, investigate it. and so they stopped the production.

« As of now, we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other. I think that’s where the real issue is, between our peace.

« We’re both professionals, we like each others’ work. »

Bill has « done not much else but thinking about it » in recent weeks and claimed the incident and its fallout have been an « education » for him.

He continued: « We like each other, I think, and if we can’t really get along and trust each other, there’s no point in going further working together or making the movie as well. It’s been quite an education for me.

And I feel like if I don’t see that, you know, the world is different than it was when I was a little kid. You know, what I always thought was funny as a little kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things change and the times change, so it’s important for me to figure it out. And I think the most important thing is that it’s best for the other person. I thought about it, and if it’s not best for the other person, doesn’t matter what happens for me.

“[I wondered], ‘How could I misperceive? How could I be so inaccurate and so insensitive when you think you’re being sensitive to some sensibility that you’ve had for a long time?’

“ So we’re talking about it. We’re, I think we’re gonna make peace with it. I’m very optimistic about that.

« I think it’s a sad dog that can’t learn anymore. I think that’s a really sad puppy that can’t learn anymore. I don’t want to be that sad dog and I have no intention of it. »

Filming on the movie – which is Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut – has yet to resume.

Kevin Spacey flirted with a 19-year-old John Barrowman and « laid on a bed with him, » a court has heard.

The former ‘House of Cards’ star is being sued by the ‘Torchwood’ actor’s old schoolmate, Anthony Rapp, who has accused the disgraced actor of assaulting him at a party in 1986 when he was just 14 years old and Spacey was more than a decade older.

As their legal battle continued in Manhattan on Tuesday, the judge was told the trio met in the 1980s.

According to testimony from John, now 55, he was staying with Anthony when they met Spacey backstage at a New York theatre before going out to dinner and later to a club, and the ‘American Beauty’ star’s lawyer, Jennifer Keller, said the actor’s attention had been on the former ‘Dancing On Ice’ judge but « nothing inappropriate » had occurred.

She asked Anthony, who was on the witness stand, if he believed he had been « seen as a tag-along » but he replied « no. »

The lawyer then quoted part of John’s deposition which had not been made public before, in which he stated they had gone back to Spacey’s apartment and lay on the bed, but did not engage in any sexual activity because of his friend’s presence.

John later sent flowers to the ‘Usual Suspects’ star and the pair stayed in touch, with the older actor often calling his new friend and his mother, which she « enjoyed. »

This account differed from Anthony’s, who had earlier testified they had gone home immediately after going to the nightclub.

Spacey’s lawyer asked him: ““It was right after Mr. Barrowman was deposed you realised you had a problem with your story,”

The ‘Rent’ actor replied: “I don’t dispute his story. I just don’t remember it. »

Elsewhere during the cross-examination, Ms. Keller questioned a speech Anthony gave in 2018, in which he credited Lupita Nyong’o’s New York Times article about her Harvey Weinstein experiences as the reason he came forward about Spacey.

She said: “It’s simply not true that her article inspired you, is it?”

He replied: “I don’t know how that can’t be true. »

The lawyer then pulled up a copy of the article, which was dated 19 October, 2017, before showing screenshots of a conversation between the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ star and his friend, BuzzFeed reporter Adam Vary.

The first was dated 11 October and Anthony had written: « I’m wanting to speak about someone else very powerful in our industry.”

His pal replied two days later: « I think everyone here wants to be sure your story has the strongest impact possible.”

Asked about the messages, Anthony said: “It was how I remember the events unfolding when I thought back on them.”

The lawyer scornfully said: “They weren’t 31 years old, were they?”

She then argued the anecdote about Lupita had been seen as « useful to you to get more sympathy,” but the witness insisted that wasn’t the case as he « conflated » the op-ed with the wider allegations about Weinstein.

Despite his alleged ordeal, Anthony admitted he had watched Spacey in many films, on television and in theatre performances since then, arguing it was his « duty » as an actor to watch the star’s work, but insisted he had « never wanted a career » like his.

Anthony filed a civil suit against Spacey after a 2020 criminal charge of sexual assault was dismissed by a judge and is seeking compensation for mental and emotional suffering, medical expenses and loss of work.

Spacey has previously pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually assaulting three men between March 2005 and April 2013 in the UK, while in 2019, charges of indecent assault and sexual assault were dropped in Massachusetts.

King Charles’ coronation is to be held on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.

The ceremony will see the king crowned alongside his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort, with the historic service being conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: « The coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry. »

Charles will be anointed as sovereign during the ceremony, and Camilla will also be crowned as part of the service, albeit in a simpler ceremony.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether the date – which falls on a Saturday – will be a public holiday in the UK.

The king became the monarch when Queen Elizabeth passed away on September 8, aged 96. But it’s been widely speculated in recent weeks that the coronation will be more modest than before.

The late queen was coronated during a three-hour ceremony in June 1953, when thousands of people lined the streets of London.

The landmark event marks the formal investiture of a monarch’s regal power. But it’s recently been suggested that Charles’ coronation could last for around one hour.

The service has been held in Westminster Abbey for 900 years. However, it’s not yet known who will attend the ceremony.

Earlier this month, meanwhile, a source revealed that Charles intends to have a more « modern » coronation.

Charles, 73, has been tipped to create a slimmed-down monarchy in the coming months and years, and he’s also said to have planned a scaled-down ceremony.

The insider recently explained: « The 1762 gold stagecoach which was seen at the queen’s Platinum Jubilee is once again expected to be seen. The anointing of the monarch will also be retained, but a shorter ceremony will take place with fewer guests. »

Ethan Hawke wants to be immortal.

The 51-year-old actor – who got his big break in 1989’s ‘Dead Poets Society’ – hopes to live forever because he doesn’t want to ever « leave this life », admitting his main « goal » is « immortality. »

Quizzed about whether he has ever thought how he wants to leave this life, he said: « First off, I don’t want to leave this life. I plan on immortality … that’s my goal.

“Actual permanent life. My favourite Willie Nelson quote is, ‘I don’t go to funerals and I definitely won’t go to mine.' »

The ‘Moon Knight’ actor admitted that if he does one day meet his maker then he hopes the Toronto International Film Festival will honour his work for 10 years.

He joked: « After I’m gone, the Toronto International Film Festival should be, I think, for about 10 years, dedicated to my work. »

But Ethan – who has children Maya, 24, and Levon, 20, with ex-wife Uma Thurman, and Clementine, 14, and Indiana, 11, with spouse Ryan Hawke – insisted the most important thing in life is to forge good relationships with those who are closest to you, because they are the ones that « really matter. »

When it is suggested to him that it is kind of immortality being in a film forever and asked what his kids think, he added to the Radio Times magazine: « All joking aside …. we’re all building sandcastles, and some of the sandcastles get knocked down sooner than others.

« I made this documentary, ‘The Last Movie Stars’, about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. And my biggest lesson from that was the greatest impact you have on people is the people who love you.

« Those are the relationships that really matter. »

Last year, Ethan admitted he was « trying to stay alive » in the film industry.

He said: « I’ve just always put one foot in front of the other, just trying to keep moving. Sometimes I feel like a cat, you know, just trying to stay alive. »

50 Cent’s eldest son Marquise Jackson has offered the rapper $6,700 for a day of his time amid their ongoing online feud.

Marquise, 25, has said online the $6,700 the rapper pays his mother in monthly child support was not enough.

He hit out on Monday on Instagram: “Since y’all think $6,700 is sooo much money someone tell my pops I will pay him $6,700 for just 24hr of his time so we can do everything I ever wanted to do with him as a kid. Red Yellow Green whatever color he like.”

Marquise added an image of himself to the request in which he spelled out the word ‘Entitled’ with money – in a spoof of a photograph 50 Cent once posted in which he used hundred dollar bills to spell out ‘Broke’.

Apparently in response to Marquise, 50 Cent – born Curtis James Jackson III – posted a clip from his series ‘Power’ showing his character Kanan shooting dead his son.

He added to the footage: “No caption needed.”

Marquise said earlier this month in an Instagram Live interview with Choke No Joke earlier this month he had battled to “rebuild” his life on his dad’s $6,700 a month maintenance – around $80,000 a year.

Referencing sky-high rents and living costs, as well as 50 Cent’s high ranking on Forbes’ rich lists and his apparent “beefs” in the music industry, he said: “$6,700 a month in New York City, you do the math. You’re talking about a Forbes lister – you’re talking about someone that has problems with everybody – you can’t just live in any neighbourhood, $81K is not a substantial amount of money. You can’t just live anywhere.

“You talking about you got beef with everybody in the industry, you can’t just live anywhere.

“If I told you right now you gotta start your life over right now with $6,700 a month and rebuild your life can you do it?”

When Choke said he could, Marquise added: “Choke you gotta stop comparing it, you comparing it to yourself, bro, you’re comparing it to your standard of lifestyle.

“You can’t do that. I know what it feels like to have nothing, alright. I had to rebuild my life over with $6,700 a month – $81,000 a year.”

50 Cent, 47, said in 2020 about being estranged from his son: “I didn’t think that success would cost me my first-born, but it’s the situation it is.

“My grandfather used to say, ‘If it rattles like a snake and slithers like a snake, is it a snake or do you need to be bit?’

“What he keeps saying is, every time you see the boy he show up with somebody you got a problem with. What does that tell you?”

Dad-of-two 50 Cent, who also has son Sire Jackson, 10, with model Daphne Joy, had Marquise with his then-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins, who later sued the rapper for $50 million in 2009.

She said he had promised to take care of her for life but the suit, which had 15 causes of action, was dismissed by a judge who called it “an unfortunate tale of a love relationship gone sour” – sparking years of feuding between her and the rapper.

Justin Bieber thinks Kanye West « crossed a line » with his recent comments about his wife Hailey.

The 28-year-old pop star is said to be angry with Kanye, 45, after he recently spoke out against the 23-year-old model.

A source said: « Justin is very protective over Hailey. He is upset by Kanye’s attack on her where he said hurtful and untrue things. »

Hailey was targeted by Kanye after she voiced her support for Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who publicly blasted Kanye’s White Lives Matter apparel.

Justin is now « distancing himself from Kanye » and he’s keen to offer support to his wife.

The insider told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: « He feels like he has been a true friend to Kanye, and tried to empathise with him in the past, but this crossed a line that he’s not OK with.

« Being there for Hailey and supporting his wife is Justin’s main priority, and he’s doing that and distancing himself from Kanye. »

The ‘Stronger’ hitmaker has been widely criticised for his provocative new fashion line, which the Vogue editor described as « pure violence ».

And after Kanye rubbished Gabriella’s criticism, Hailey took to social media to offer her some support.

Hailey – who has modelled for the likes of Guess, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger – wrote on Instagram: « My respect for you runs deep my friend! To know is to adore you and to work with you is an honor. »

The blonde beauty – who married Justin in 2018 – added: « The most kind. the most talented. the most fun. the most chic. »

Elon Musk says he has spoken to Kanye West about the rapper’s antisemitic scandal.

The Tesla billionaire, 51, tweeted he’d had an exchange with the 45-year-old rapper after he was locked out of Twitter and Instagram over an accusation Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was controlled by “Jewish people”.

Elon – embroiled in a complex attempt to buy Twitter for $44 billion that has seen him dragged into court – said on Tuesday: “Talked to Ye today and expressed my concerns about his recent tweet, which I think he took to heart.”

Kanye, who has rebranded himself Ye, hit out at Diddy, 52, after the rapper texted him to plead with him to stop promoting ‘White Lives Matter’ T-shirts Kanye displayed at his YZY Paris Fashion Week show.

Diddy told Kanye by text: “I’m trying to talk to you as a black man. And I’m talking to you because this is hurting our people. Stop.”

Kanye responded: “Anything you text I will post” – before posting their exchange to his 18 million Instagram followers.

The rapper then accused Diddy of being controlled by Jewish people, saying: “This ain’t a game. Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me.”

The posts were removed by Instagram’s owner Meta, run by Mark Zuckerberg.

After the firm’s moderators stepped in, Kanye used Instagram to rant at Mark: “Look at this, Mark. How you gone kick me off Instagram. You use to be my n****.”

A Meta spokesperson told Mail Online at the time: “We may place restrictions on accounts that repeatedly break our rules.”

It was not been stated which rule Kanye has broken, but since the fallout from Kanye’s ‘WLM’ controversy, he has used social media to attack figures including a contributing editor to Vogue, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her family and supermodel Gigi Hadid.

Kanye stood his ground over his T-shirts in an interview given to Fox News Channel’s ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ aired in two parts on October 6 and 7.

The rapper said the shirt was a product of his “connection with God” and “energy” that he channels which is “just brilliance”.

The rapper also insisted his father Ray West found the WLM fallout “funny” despite him being an “educated ex-Black Panther”.

Khloe Kardashian had a tumor removed from her face after suffering a cancer scare.

The 38-year-old star has revealed to her social media followers that she’s undergone an operation to have a small bump removed from her cheek.

Khloe wrote on her Instagram Story: « I have seen numerous stories going around about the ever-evolving bandage on my face, with some of you wondering why I’ve been wearing one for the past few weeks.

« After noticing a small bump on my face and assuming it was something as minor as a zit, I decided to get it biopsied 7 months after realizing it was not budging.

« Dermatologist Dr Tess Mauricio (@drtessmauricio) examined it, and a second biopsy was ran by Dr. Daniel Behroozan (@drdanbehroozan) because what they were both seeing was incredibly rare for someone my age.

« A few days later I was told I need to have an immediate operation to remove a tumor from my face. I called none other than Dr. Garth Fischer, a dear friend of my families and one of the best surgeons in Beverly Hills who I knew would take incredible care of my face. (sic) »

The reality star subsequently explained that her face is currently « healing ».

Khloe also speculated that she’ll have a scar on her face for some time to come.

She said: « I’m grateful to share that Dr. Fischer @garthfishermd was able to get everything – all my margins appear clear and now we are onto the healing process. So, here we are… you’ll continue to see my bandages and when I’m allowed, you’ll probably see a scar (and an indention in my cheek from the tumor being removed) but until then I hope you enjoy how fabulous I’m making these face bandages look [heart emojis] (sic) »
