WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – Le propriétaire d’une entreprise de tourisme en traîneau à chiens à Whistler nie les allégations selon lesquelles les animaux souffrent et sont enchaînés et mis en cage pendant de longues périodes.
La Vancouver Humane Society a publié une vidéo avec des images secrètement filmées par drone des chiens à Traîneau à chiens Blackcomb. La vidéo semble montrer des chiens qui font des allers-retours dans des cages, tandis que l’un d’eux court autour du poteau auquel ils sont attachés. «Cinq minutes plus tôt, vous auriez vu quelqu’un enlever les parapluies de fruits colorés de chaque niche. Vous avez également manqué des dizaines de chiens jouant dans la cour, s’amusant, jouant sur la cour de récréation », dit-elle à NEWS 1130, ajoutant que la vidéo était sortie de son contexte.
«Jamais, pas un seul jour de l’année, jamais ils ne sont enchaînés une journée entière. Ces chiens font beaucoup d’exercice, ils ont beaucoup de temps libre, ils ont beaucoup de temps de jeu », dit-elle. «Ils ne sont pas assis ici en détresse sur des chaînes toute la journée, c’est absolument faux.
La voix off dans les images affirme que l’industrie du traîneau à chiens est «notoire» pour ne pas prendre suffisamment soin des animaux, affirmant: «Nous ne pouvons jamais faire confiance à quiconque considère un animal comme une marchandise pour le traiter avec respect.

Hargreaves, qui dit qu’elle manipule des chiens de traîneau depuis 12 ans, affirme que moins de 5% de son chenil est sur des attaches.
«Ces chiens ne sont pas enchaînés toute la journée, absolument pas. Ils doivent être nourris individuellement. Ils ont besoin de dormir individuellement. Ils doivent être correctement entretenus. Cependant, ils socialisent et jouent.
Hargreaves dit que les drones volant au-dessus des chiens auraient été dérangeants pour eux, contribuant au comportement souligné par la société humanitaire. Au bout de la rue, il y a un panneau annonçant des visites gratuites du chenil, il n’était donc pas nécessaire d’utiliser les drones en premier lieu, ajoute-t-elle.
Elle dit qu’elle ne pense pas que le partage de connexion devrait être interdit car c’est un outil approprié dans certaines situations. Cependant, elle ajoute qu’elle fait toujours ce qu’il y a de mieux pour les chiens.
