When celebrities do live interviews, plenty can happen, including outrageous actions, questions and/or answers. The View has had plenty of interesting guests, controversies and also feuds among its own hosts, as they all seem to be outspoken concerning their views on certain matters.

While it is usually celebrities who walk out of interviews, if anyone walks out, two of The View‘s hosts, Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg once walked out during Bill O’Reilly’s interview on the show.

However, when Russell Brand appeared, the guest and all of the hosts seemed to get along pretty well, no matter what was asked or mentioned. They started off the interview joking around, before things took a more serious turn.

Russell Brand has spoken about his past addictions to drugs and alcohol before. This was no different when the Get Him to The Greek actor was asked about his past on The View.

After some initial joking around with the hosts, things took a more serious turn when Whoopi Goldberg asked about his past. She asked Brand, « I was wondering Russell, if you have decided if you want to sponsor people, because I know that one of the things I love about you, is that you have recovered, and are staying on a pretty, pretty even path.

Goldberg added, « But, I wonder if you’re prepared to sponsor other people on the same path. » The actor asked, « Do you mean with regard to drug and alcohol addiction? » Goldberg answered, « yeah, » and Brand went on to discuss this subject further.

When Russell Brand sat down with the hosts of The View, initially the interview started out light, with Brand charming the hosts with certain compliments, for example commenting about host Rosie Perez’s dimples.

However, when host Whoopi Goldberg brought up Brand’s past issues, the interview took an emotional twist. After Goldberg asked the multitalented celebrity if he was ready to « sponsor people on the same path » he had been on, he spoke more on the subject.

Brand spoke about his thoughts on sponsoring other people, which seemed to sometimes get overwhelming for the comedian. « A part of my daily recovery, ‘One Day At A Time’, from drugs and alcohol is that I have to be available to help anybody, anybody at all, that has a drug or alcohol problem. »

Brand added that he was expected to help anyone who reached out to him. He joked, « It’s really annoying in fact, if anybody at all with a drug or alcohol problem says, ‘Russell, I want to get clean’, I have to help them. »

« It’s like, a mandatory obligation, and sometimes, I sort of want to go, ‘No! Oh I have to.' » Brand jokingly commented he wanted to say no, before adding he would help anyone who asked. However, Brand doesn’t seem to mind helping others who need it.

Host Nicole Wallace then asked about Brand’s work with homeless veterans, mentioning Brand’s willingness to help others.

Russell Brand’s 2014 interview on the daytime talk show, The View, started with some light-hearted jokes, and it seemed to keep going that way until host Whoopi Goldberg asked the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor about his past.

After Brand discussed sponsoring others with addictions, host Nicole Wallace brought up about something the comedian went out of his way to do for others in need. Wallace commented, « You took a homeless person into your flat, so I think it’s easier for you than you make it say, to say, ‘yes’. »

Brand explained his reasons, stating, « Sometimes people are stigmatized because of something like homelessness, but I know loads of people that are homeless, and they’re exactly the same as me except for a roof. »

Wallace mentioned, « And you talk to them, and you don’t have any of that sort of barrier I think other people – some people step over them, you write a lot about how you don’t do that. »

Brand said, « I think it’s important to try to acknowledge that we are ultimately unified by our common humanity. »

He then joked, « Although it doesn’t always work out well. I gave a homeless man my cell phone a phone and said, ‘Stay in touch with me, and report back to me.’ So I remained grateful for having a home and everything and he sent me a photograph of his g*****ls. »

His story caused the hosts and their audience to burst into laughter. Brand hasn’t been in the public eye much recently. Brand has reinvented himself, and it seems one of his current focuses is putting out content on his channel.
