Manchester City 4-0 Southampton, Chelsea 3-0 Wolves and more: football clockwatch – as it happened | Premier League

Key events

That’s it for today’s Clockwatch. Thanks for your company and emails, and don’t forget to join Scott Murray for Brighton v Tottenham. Ta-ra!

Manchester City 4-0 Southampton

Bournemouth 2-1 Leicester

Here’s Ben Fisher’s report from the Vitality Stadium, where a stirring comeback lifted Bournemouth to eighth in the table.

Full time: Wrexham 7-5 Barnet I think we all know which game will be first on Match of the Day.

Championship

The top two have both been beaten. Norwich lost 3-2 at home to Preston, while Stoke beat Sheffield United 3-1 at the Bet365 Stadium. Burnley jump to fourth after a 1-0 win at Coventry.

Full time: Bournemouth 2-1 Leicester

Bournemouth continue to thrive under Gary O’Neil, but that’s a seriously deflating defeat for Leicester.

Norwich 2-3 Preston Norwich have had a goal disallowed in the fourth minute of injury time!

Wrexham 7-5 Barnet

“Has anyone checked,” says Tim Ray, “that the goals are the right size at Wrexham?”

Premier League full times

It’s all over at Stamford Bridge, the Etihad and St James’ Park, with all three games ending in big wins for the home side.

League One A lovely moment at the DW Stadium, where Charlie Wyke has scored his first goal since suffering a cardiac arrest during training.

GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Wolves (Broja 90)

The substitute Armando Broja gets his first goal for Chelsea to seal a very comfortable win.

GOAL! Newcastle 5-1 Brentford (Pinnock 90 og)

Ethan Pinnock, whose dodgy backpass led to Newcastle’s fourth goal, has now scored the fifth. Newcastle have scored nine goals in their last two games!

GOAL! Wrexham 7-5 Barnet

“Do you have the courage to make a prediction how many goals (in the league and overall) Haaland is going to score this season?” says Bogdan Kotarlic. “I am bad at predictions but certainly 30+ in the league and who knows how many (maybe 45-50) in all the competitions?”

I’ll go for 32 and 44 as I think he’ll get injured at some stage. If he stays fit, 421 and 578.

The late game is a good one – Brighton v Spurs at the Amex Stadium. Scott Murray has the team news.

The latest Premier League scores

Norwich 2-3 Preston My word, Troy Parrott has restored Preston’s lead at Carrow Road! It’s his first goal since his loan move from Spurs.

GOAL! Newcastle 4-1 Brentford (Almiron 79)

It’s a rout at St James’ Park. The increasingly prolific Miguel Almiron intercepts a poor backpass from Ethan Pinnock and walks round David Raya to score.

“Living in Baku ten years ago,” begins John Tumbridge, “you could watch all the 3pm Saturday matches at the same time as long as your head was mounted on gimbals by wandering into any bar, each match was screened on at least one screen.”

National League Make that Wrexham 7-4 Barnet.

Norwich 2-2 Preston Gabriel Sara has equalised for Norwich at Carrow Road. As things stand, with Sheffield United losing 2-1 at Stoke, Norwich are top.

In League One, Ipswich have come from behind to lead 2-1 away to the bottom club Morecambe. George Edmondson and Lee Evans got the goals.

“My ancestral roots are 50 per cent Norwegian – shout out to the Horn-Planting clans – so I was happy to brag about Haaland because we have so few options in the football world to grasp onto,” says Mary Waltz. “Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that Haaland is an alien hiding in a Norwegian skin suit.”

What’s really ominous is that, as well as all the goals that only he can score because of his extraordinary physique and speed, he has started scoring typical City goals from low crosses or cutbacks. I knew I should have bet the farm on his winning player of the year.

GOAL! Rangers 3-0 St Mirren (Colak 73)

Antonio Colak’s second goal has sealed victory for Rangers in the big game at Ibrox.

National League It’s now Wrexham 7-3 Barnet.

GOAL! Bournemouth 2-1 Leicester (Christie 71)

I say! Bournemouth have scored two in four minutes to take the lead. After some scruffy defending from Leicester, Ryan Christie scored from close range.

GOAL! Bournemouth 1-1 Leicester (Billing 68)

A clean sheet away from home was too good to be true for Leicester. Philip Billing has equalised for Bournemouth, belting a volley through Danny Ward after Dominic Solanke’s shot was blocked.

National League A notable scoreline at the Racecourse Ground: Wrexham 6-3 Barnet. And Barnet were 2-1 up at one stage.

GOAL! Manchester City 4-0 Southampton (Yep 65)

Erling Haaland gets his 20th goal of the season. It was a classic City goal: Cancelo played a smooth one-two with De Bruyne and cut the ball back to Haaland, who drilled it first time past Bazunu.

This is the Premier League table as things stand. City are top, City (Leicester) are out of the relegation zone and Newcastle are in the top five.

Wigan 0-1 Cardiff Apparently this game was delayed because one of the goals is bigger than the other. How peculiar.

“Well, this no good,” says Charles Antaki. “I tuned in to see The Haaland Show, with guaranteed bullocking goals, and, after a good hour, none forthcoming. I’d be demanding my money back if I’d actually paid anything. Also, he’s just missed a sitter. Grump.”

GOAL! Newcastle 3-1 Brentford (Guimaraes 56)

Bruno Guimaraes has restored Newcastle’s two-goal lead with a fine goal, his second of the game. He surged forward from midfield and cracked the ball past David Raya from about 20 yards.

“Game of the day in Scotland is Dundee United v Aberdeen at Tannadice blah blah blah,” says Simon McMahon. “Six o’clock kick off, apparently so American viewers can tune in over their brunchtime waffles. Lol. Hope they’re ready for some grit as well. Enjoy the game y’all.”

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Wolves (Pulisic 54)

He missed a few in the first half, but Christian Pulisic has doubled Chelsea’s lead with a cool chip over Jose Sa.

Norwich 1-2 Preston Crikey, Emil Riis has scored his second to give Preston an unlikely lead at Carrow Road.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-1 Brentford (Toney 54 pen)

Ivan Toney scores; of course he does. There are few better penalty takers in the world.

PENALTY TO BRENTFORD! Dan Burn has been penalised for handball, and Ivan Toney has the chance to score against his old side.

GOAL! Manchester City 3-0 Southampton (Mahrez 49)

Rodri’s angled pass is volleyed in at the far post by Riyad Mahrez, and City are strolling towards another big victory at the Etihad. That’s City’s 44th goal of the season in all competitions. It’s the 8th of October!

“If, as you say, you can’t actually watch the 3pm games on TV in the UK,” begins Brian Robson, “let me be the first of 1,057 pedants to offer my services from here in Canada as we can watch all the games on split screen via Fubo for $13.99 per month. It’s a crazy world my friend.”

If it was up to me…

“Aubameyang,” says Jeff Sachs, “was a waste of money.”

Case closed your honour.

Half-time reading

Full time: Sassuolo 1-2 Internazionale

It’s all over at the Mapei Stadium, where Edin Dzeko scored a goal in each half to give Inter a much-needed win. They jump to seventh in Serie A, though all the teams above them have a game in hand.

Bournemouth 0-1 Leicester

“To me it looked like a foul,” says Kári Tulinius. “Evans kind of shinned Fredericks down in the box, but VAR doesn’t seem to have thought the same. Either way, booking him for diving was odd. I think referee Michael Salisbury had his eyes on Evans’ foot, which he pulled away, and didn’t see the other contact.”

Peep peep! It’s half time up and down the country, and these are the Premier League scores.

You can get the latest from all the other games on our dedicated live scores page. The Championship leaders Sheffield United are 2-1 down at Stoke, where 402-year-old Phil Jagielka has scored against his old club.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Wolves (Havertz 45+3)

It’s been coming since the first whistle. Kai Havertz has finally put Chelsea ahead, looping a header over Jose Sa from Mason Mount’s swirling cross.

“Chelsea finally have a striker that strikes, yet Aubameyang is on the bench,” says Julian Menz. “Surely it would be better to keep him playing/scoring, or do you know of any injury niggles?”

GP’s stopped answering my WhatsApps, so I have no inside knowledge. I assume he’s just managing his workload as they have a big game in Milan on Tuesday.

St Johnstone 1-2 Celtic

Here’s more on Celtic’s dramatic victory at McDiarmid Park.

Bournemouth 0-1 Leicester Bournemouth have had a big penalty appeal turned down after a lunging tackle from Evans on Fredericks. In fact, Fredericks has been booked for diving. As we can’t legally watch the Saturday 3pm kick-offs, I have nothing else to say.

Chelsea 0-0 Wolves It’s a 0-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea have had 73 per cent of the possession and 10 shots to Wolves’ three.

“Pulisic is finally given a start and he doesn’t take advantage,” weeps Mary Waltz. “He was given three glorious opportunities for goals and he botched all three. Update, make that four.”

On the plus side, he’s got a book out.

Sassuolo 1-2 Inter Edin Dzeko has restored Inter’s lead with his second goal of the afternoon. Just under 15 minutes to play.
