Boys basketball

Windsor 76, Mountain View 24, in Loveland: Windsor closed the regular season on a six-game win streak, earning the top seed in the 32-team Class 4A boys playoffs. With a 12-1 record, the Wizards secured the chance to host No. 32 Durango on Tuesday night. Against Mountain View, senior Kobe Greene paced Windsor with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He also had four rebounds and four steals.

Greeley West 57, Riverdale Ridge 51, in Thornton: Greeley West closed its season on a three-game win streak, including this first half of back-to-back games on consecutive nights. The Spartans outscored Riverdale Ridge by slim margins in each of the first three quarters.

Highland 80, Clear Creek 31, in Ault: Highland won its 12th consecutive game, playing in the first of two games on consecutive days. Senior Bowen Tolle scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting. He also recorded six rebounds and three steals.

Briggsdale 67, Caliche 65, OT: Playing the first of two games on consecutive days, Briggsdale extended its win streak to five in nail-biting fashion. Freshman Tanner Fiscus scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting for the Falcons. Junior Michael Bittinger recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.

Greeley Central 39, Niwot 34, in Niwot Greeley Central wrapped up its season on a bright note, ending its campaign at 4-9 with the nonconference victory. Junior Jakob Sepeda led the Wildcats with 16 points.

Lyons 74, Dayspring Christian 57, in Greeley: Dayspring saw its six-game win streak snapped, playing in the first of two games on back-to-back days. The Eagles were playing catch-up after falling behind 21-10 in the first half. Senior Christian Still led Dayspring with 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Wiggins 51, Platte Valley 47, in Wiggins: Platte Valley wrapped up the season with a tough loss, ending at 6-8 overall. Despite the loss, four players scored double figures for the Broncos: sophomore Zach Uyemura (14), junior Devyn Lauer (10), senior Kade McDaniel (10) and sophomore Max Zenk (10). Zenk and McDaniel also had 10 boards apiece.

Liberty Common 48, Valley 47, in Gilcrest: Valley wrapped up its season with a tight loss, finishing the season at 1-11 overall, 1-8 in 3A Patriot League play. The Vikings led 31-21 at halftime but were outscored 17-4 in the third quarter. Despite the loss, senior Allan Hernandez scored 20, and senior Ty Stotts had 15 for Valley.

Girls basketball

Windsor 69, Mountain View 25, in Loveland: Windsor won its fourth consecutive game to end the regular season, improving to 12-1 and earning the third seed in the 32-team 4A playoffs. The Wizards grabbed the opportunity to host No. 30 Pueblo County (9-5) on Tuesday. Sophomore Raegan Johnson led a balanced Windsor effort with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Platte Valley 55, Strasburg 31, in Strasburg: Playing in the front half of back-to-back games on successive days, Platte Valley assumed firm control, going up 35-12 by halftime. The Broncos ran a balanced offense, led by junior Brooke Bunting (15 points), junior Cora Schissler (14) and sophomore Andi Schissler (12). Cora Schissler also had five rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Eaton 60, Brush 44, in Eaton: Eaton bounced back from a tough overtime loss to Platte Valley two days earlier, wrapping up its regular season at 10-2 overall, 8-2 in 3A Patriot League play. After leading just 8-6 through one quarter, the Reds blew open the game with a 23-6 second quarter. Junior Ahana Leffler scored a game-high 15 points for Eaton. The Reds earned the sixth seed, and a first-round bye, in the 24-team playoffs and will play host to either No. 11 St. Mary’s (12-2) or No. 22 Colorado Academy (7-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Briggsdale 77, Caliche 22, in Briggsdale: In the first of two games on back-to-back days, Briggsdale ran its record to 11-0 on the season, outscoring Caliche 28-0 in the first quarter and 57-2 in the first half. Junior Kylie Krise led the Falcons with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with five rebounds, two steals and four assists.

Greeley Central 52, Niwot 20, in Niwot: Greeley Central closed its season on a three-game win streak, falling just short of qualifying for the 32-team 5A playoffs. The Wildcats held Niwot scoreless in the first two quarters, leading 36-0 at halftime. Seniors Micaela Hidalgo and Kim Arredondo wrapped up their high school careers by scoring team-highs of 13 and 10 points, respectively. Hidalgo also had 10 rebounds, a block and eight steals. Central finished the season at 6-7, winning six of its last seven games.

University 59, Liberty Common 26, in Greeley: University ended its regular season on a six-game win streak and, as the seventh seed in the 24-team state tournament, will receive a first-round bye. The Bulldogs were in firm control after leading 27-7 at halftime. They will face either The Academy or Valley or Thursday in Greeley.

Highland 56, Clear Creek 29, in Ault: In the first of game on consecutive nights, Highland dominated defensively, holding Clear Creek to seven points in the second quarter and one in the third. Freshman Taylor Berkheimer and sophomore Jenna Batka had 18 and 15 points, respectively, for the Huskies.

Dayspring Christian 61, Lyons 48, in Greeley: Dayspring Christian played in the first of two games on back-to-back days, outscoring Lyons 29-20 in the second half. Junior Corrin Sides led the way with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Valley 42, Estes Park 26, in Estes Park: Valley built some momentum heading into a tough playoff matchup, finishing its season at 8-6 overall, 4-6 overall. The Vikings are the 23rd seed in the 24-team playoffs and they earned the chance to face No. 10 The Academy (9-1) on Tuesday night in Westminster. In the regular season finale against Estes Park, Valley junior Jordan Savolt scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, and the Vikings played lights-out defense.

Riverdale Ridge 74, Greeley West 51, in Thornton: Playing the first of two games in two days to end the season, Greeley West found itself in a big hole — down 43-22 — after being outscored 24-10 in the second quarter. Despite the loss, Spartans senior guard Nevaeh Sepeda scored a game-high 25 points and swiped three steals.

Sterling 57, Frontier Academy 27, in Greeley: Frontier Academy ended its season at 2-10 overall, 1-9 in 3A Patriot League play. Junior Cristina Sorelle posted team-highs of nine points and five steals for the Wolverines.

Saturday, March 6

Boys basketball

Greeley West 69, Fort Morgan 62, in Fort Morgan: Playing its second game in as many nights, Greeley West used a big second quarter — outscoring Fort Morgan 23-9 — to close its season on a three-game win streak. The Spartans wrapped up their season at 6-8. Senior Colton Gillingham finished his stellar senior season by scoring a game-high 30 and grabbing seven rebounds.

Briggsdale 72, Prairie 58, in Briggsdale: Briggsdale wrapped up the regular season with its sixth consecutive win. The Falcons finished the regular season at 10-2 overall, 4-0 in 1A North Central League play, locking up the ninth seed in the 24-team tournament and a home playoff game at 7 p.m. Tuesday against No. 24 Rocky Mountain Lutheran (8-5).

Highland 58, Denver Christian 45, in Denver: Highland won its 13 consecutive game and wrapped up its season at 13-1, including 11-0 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play. Freshman Jase Bessire led the balanced Huskies with 17 points, to go with seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Leading just 25-12 at halftime, Highland created some separation with an 18-6 third quarter. Highland earned the 10th seed in the 24-team 3A playoffs and positioned itself to face fellow Weld County squad, No. 23 University (8-6) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Dayspring Christian 62, Front Range Christian 45, in Greeley: Dayspring Christian recovered from a rare late-season loss fewer than 24 hours earlier. Senior Christian Still led the way with a game-high 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting, to go with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Eagles finished the regular season at 8-6 overall, 6-4 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play. They earned the 22nd seed in the 24-team playoff bracket and were positioned to face No. 11 Del Norte(11-3) on the road at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Holy Family 70, Severance 61, in Broomfield: In its final regular season of its first varsity season, Severance hung tough with the 12th seed in the 32-team 4A playoffs. The two teams were tied at 27 at halftime before Holy Family gained the upper hand with a 25-13 run in the third quarter. Junior Carson Fagan had 19 points, while freshman Brady Varney scored 14 for the Silver Knights. Varney also had 12 boards. Severance (9-5) secured the 26th seed and the chance to travel south to take on No. 7 Pueblo Central (12-2) in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday.

Mead 69, Northridge 42, in Mead: Northridge ran into a 4A powerhouse, ending its season with a 2-12 record. Mead is ranked fourth in 4A by CHSAANow.com. Sophomore Zach Van Soest led the Grizzlies with 11 points. The Mavericks outscored Northridge 35-14 in the second half.

Brush 65, Frontier Academy 39, in Greeley: Frontier Academy struggled in its season finale, ending its campaign at 3-11 overall, 1-9 in 3A Patriot League play. Senior Max Noffsinger led the Wolverines with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Silver Creek 67, Roosevelt 45, in Johnstown: Roosevelt ended its season at 5-9.

Otis 61, Prairie 37, in Otis: Playing in its second game in one day, Prairie fell to 4-9 on the season before dropping to 4-10 with a loss to Briggsdale later in the day.

Girls basketball

Mead 76, Northridge 64, in Mead: Northridge received an early look at one of the better teams in 4A just days before the start of the state playoffs. Mead is seeded 12th in the 32-team playoffs. Northridge, with a 12-2 overall record, earned the 14th seed — and a first-round matchup with No. 19 Thornton at home on Tuesday. Against the Mavericks, the Grizzlies trailed just 33-32 at halftime but were outscored 43-32 in the second half. Sophomore Karly Beck scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting for Northridge. She also recorded 16 boards, three steals and two assists.

Greeley West 43, Fort Morgan 38, in Fort Morgan: Greeley West secured its third win of the season, ending its season at 3-11 with this nonconference victory. Senior Nevaeh Sepeda wrapped up her high school career by scoring 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. She also dished four assists and swiped three steals.

Briggsdale 66, Shining Mountain 36, in Briggsdale: Briggsdale wrapped up a perfect regular season at 12-0 overall. Freshman Jenna Krise (16 points) and sophomore Macie Klem (15) led the Falcons’ balanced offense. The Falcons’ sole senior, Shelby Hoffman, recorded 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds, along with three assists. With its stellar regular season, Briggsdale earned the top seed on the 24-team 1A girls postseason bracket.

Roosevelt 60, Riverdale Ridge 53, in Johnstown: Roosevelt built some momentum heading into the 32-team 4A playoffs with this nonleague win. The Rough Riders (11-3) are the 17th seed, and they earned a first-round roach matchup Tuesday against No. 16 D’Evelyn (11-3). In the regular season finale against Riverdale Ridge, seniors Skylar Keller and Trinity Ramirez scored 12 points apiece, while freshman Brynn Price added 11. Keller also had nine rebounds and nine steals.

Platte Valley 52, Yuma 30, in Kersey: Platte Valley wrapped up its impressive regular season at 12-1 overall, 9-0 in 3A Patriot League play, winning 10 consecutive games. From the second quarter on, the Broncos dominated this nonleague regular season finale. Junior Brooke Bunting led the way with 16 points to go with six rebounds and eight steals. As the third seed in the 24-team state tournament, Platte Valley will receive a first-round bye before playing host to No. 14 Kent Denver (9-3) or No. 19 Sterling (8-6) at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Highland 37, Denver Christian 32, OT, in Denver: Highland went into overtime to win its second game in as many days and wrap up its season at 9-5 overall, including 9-2 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play. The Huskies placed second in the league behind Heritage Christian (13-1, 10-0). Sophomore Jenna Batka was Highland’s sole double-digit scorer in the defensive-minded affair, recording 10 points. She also had three steals.

Dayspring Christian 47, Front Range Christian 37, in Greeley: Dayspring Christian wrapped up its season at 7-7 overall, 6-5 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play. Junior Corrin Sides led the defensive-minded affair for the Eagles with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Holy Family 68, Severance 35, in Severance: Severance faced the top seed in the 32-team 4A playoffs to end the regular season. The Tigers outscored the Silver Knights 43-11 in the first half. Despite the loss, Severance qualified for the playoffs in its first season of varsity action. It is the 23rd seed, earning the chance to face No. 10 Palmer Ridge (10-3) on Tuesday. The Silver Knights have an 8-6 record.

Girls swimming and diving

Windsor places second, West finishes third at conference meet, in Greeley: Windsor capped off the two-day Class 4A Northern Conference Championships with 402 points, second only to Silver Creek’s 411. Delaney Engel helped pace the Wizards, winning the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.75). Greeley West placed third with 291.5 points. Windsor’s Amelia Perkins won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.66. Greeley West’s Kourtney Smith won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.51. The Spartans’ 200 freestyle relay team of Emma Sheaffer, Zoey Douglass, Kyra Weinbender and Smith placed first, as well (1:42.75). West and Windsor will compete in the 4A state championships on Friday at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton.
