Un expert propose des conseils pour éviter le zoombombing après le détournement de l’événement de Richmond

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Après qu’une organisation de femmes de Richmond a été bombardée de messages sexistes, racistes et pornographiques, un expert en cybersécurité met le public en garde contre la sécurité des réunions en ligne.

Dominic Vogel, expert en cybersécurité, dit d’après son expérience, les zooms sont de moins en moins courants à mesure que les gens ajoutent des fonctionnalités de sécurité supplémentaires, mais cela se résume à une prise de conscience.

«Au début de la pandémie, lorsque les entreprises se démenaient et essayaient de comprendre comment utiliser le zoom, c’était plus courant.»

Vogel suggère d’avoir un mot de passe pour la réunion Zoom et l’utilisation de la fonction de salle d’attente sont deux fonctionnalités efficaces pour ajouter un niveau de niveau protection pour empêcher les utilisateurs non autorisés d’accéder à la réunion.

Malheureusement, si les réunions sont liées à certains sujets, il dit qu’elles peuvent être davantage une cible hotspot.

«Il y en a tellement qui ne considèrent pas l’égalité et les droits et l’égalité des sexes comme une chose importante. Les gens qui commettent ces attaques le font parce qu’ils le font sur la base d’une idéologie, aussi malade et tordue que cela puisse être », explique Vogel. «Et ces personnes pourraient être n’importe où dans le monde, et c’est ce qui rend si difficile de leur attribuer un crime. Et la conseillère de la ville de Richmond, Alexa Loo, l’une des participantes impliquées dans le bombardement de samedi, décrit l’incident comme à la fois troublant et au-delà de la logique.

«Il y a cette composante de peur de la façon dont cette personne est arrivée ici? Comment sont-ils ici? Que sont-ils capables de faire d’autre? » elle demande. «Nous constatons beaucoup plus d’intimidation et de harcèlement en ligne. Les gens sont déjà en colère contre le COVID, ils sont stressés à ce sujet et ils sont juste prêts à s’en prendre aux gens pour les choses les plus étranges, et c’est comme si nous perdions en quelque sorte notre humanité au profit de notre présence en ligne.

Vogel ajoute que le conseil d’administration est généralement composé de femmes plus âgées qui n’ont pas le plus d’expérience avec la nouvelle technologie de travail à domicile, ce qui rend la personne qui a pris le temps de détourner l’événement décevante.

«Je pense que beaucoup d’entre nous se sentent plus vulnérables quand nous n’avons pas ces systèmes de soutien en place, et vous avez une organisation qui essaie d’aider les gens à mettre ces systèmes en place, puis ils sont attaqués de l’extérieur. Je pense que cela crée vraiment de la peur et des malentendus.

Mais à la fin de la journée, elle dit qu’elle est impressionnée et par la façon dont les hôtes de l’événement ont géré la bombe à zoom, en disant: «les femmes font souvent bien, nous nous réunissons, nous faisons avancer les choses. Et que ce n’était qu’un autre exemple de cela.

Le Centre de ressources pour les femmes de Richmond a été ciblé, lors de son événement annuel de la Journée internationale de la femme, la plus grande collecte de fonds annuelle du groupe.
