Kristen Stewart and Lady Gaga lead the stars tipped for Oscars nomination in W Magazine photoshoot


The Oscar nominations are not out yet but W magazine has chosen its ten best performers – and dressed them in a variety of wacky outfits.

Lady Gaga, Cate Blanchett and Kristen Stewart are among stars gracing W’s Hollywood issue, curated by W’s editor Lynn Hirschberg. 

The singer, 35, tipped for honours for her role as Patrizia Reggiani in House Of Gucci, brought a dark edge to the magazine as she was photographed by Tim Walker in a red cape that draped around her head.

In the second arty image, the songstress held her own head in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other- perhaps in reference of her role as Italian socialite Patrizia, who was convicted in a highly publicised trial of hiring a hitman to kill her former husband Maurizio Gucci. 

The star’s look was styled by W Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Sara Moonves. She also appeared all in white in an Alaia dress with a head covering and giant platform boots.

Kristen, 31, who plays Princess Diana in Spencer, went for 1960s glamour in a yellow Chanel jacket and skirt while Benedict Cumberbatch, 45, sported an oversized cowboy hat – a nod to his role as an abusive rancher in The Power Of The Dog.

The British actor also plays a cat-obsessed artist in The Electrical Life Of Louis Wain.

Tilda Swinton, 61, and her daughter Honor Swinton Byrne, 24, who appear together in The Souvenir Part II, posed with brightly coloured hair, make-up and a can of Irn Bru.  

The Souvenir: Part II received critical acclaim and on Rotten Tomatoes, has an approval rating of 94% based on 86 critical reviews.

Meanwhile Respect star Jennifer Hudson, 40, wowed in a white Dior gown. The film follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career -from a child singing in her father’s church choir to her international fame. 

The songstress also looked gorgeous in purple as she wore a purple dress with the word ‘Fendi’ printed all over it and she had a corner of an iPhone between her lips.

Jessica Chastain looked glamorous in a rose print jumpsuit. The actress, 44, played Tammy Faye Bakker in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. The film depicts the controversial history of televangelists Tammy and Jim Bakker.

Denzel Washington wore a more classic look in an all black suit. He has received rave reviews for his titular role Thane of Cawdor in The Tragedy of Macbeth. 

The Oscar nominations are announced on February 8, with the ceremony on March 27.

W Magazine featured the 31-year-old actress on the first cover of the new year, which highlights the best performances of 2021. 

In her interview, The Twilight star discussed that she knew what she wanted to do with her live when she was nine-years-old.

In a second look for the magazine, Kristen wore a purple dress with her hair pinned up on her head. The Spencer actress had a dark purple hood wrapped around her hair as she held a purple rose not by the stem, but by the flower.

The film Spencer highlights a fictionalized version of Princess Diana’s decision to end her marriage with Prince Charles and debuted in November.   

Kristen’s childhood dreams didn’t stop at acting. She recalled with the magazine on when she first realized she wanted to direct as well. 

‘I used to ask every adult actor that I was working with: “Would you ever be directed by a kid under 18?” [Laughs] I was saying that at 12, »‘ she said. 

This year’s Best Performance issue features a total of 10 different covers, which highlights some of the biggest stars seen in 2021.
