Football High Live: Scores, updates, highlights from Round 3 games across the state


A lot of the pieces will fall in place tonight as we inch closer to the 2021 Super 7 in Birmingham.

The Class 7A finalists will be decided in a pair of regular-season rematches. Auburn travels to Central-Phenix City, while Thompson heads to Hoover for the second time in a month. The winners play on Dec. 1 for the title.

In Classes 1A-6A, we will be down to the final four tonight in each class with one week left before the championships. Meanwhile, the AISA is ahead of the game. That league’s champions are decided today in Montgomery.

10:08 PM, Big night for TJ Dudley: The Oregon commit had 9 tackles, returned an interception for a TD and had four tackles for a loss as Montgomery Catholic defeated Hillcrest-Evergreen 41-6. Knights have allowed 33 points all season.

5A: Pleasant Grove defeats Center Point 49-21

10 PM, Final: Clay-Chalkville defeats Gardendale 50-44 in overtime. Louisville commit Khalib Johnson with a 10-yard TD run for the win. Great game.

No. 1 advances in 5A: Pike Road rolls over Faith Academy, 42-0

9:17 PM, Coming down to cases: UMS has a first down at the Andalusia 6 with 14 seconds left. Bulldogs trail 20-14. They have no more timeouts left.

9:15 PM, What a change in momentum: Central-Phenix City has scored 21 straight points and now leads Auburn 28-17 late in the fourth quarter. Winner goes to the 7A title game.

9:12 PM, Final in 1A: Wadley 27, Woodland 0. Woodland was the only team left with a losing record, finish 5-8.

9:11 PM, Lead change: Caleb Nix puts Central-Phenix City in front of Auburn in their semifinal game midway through the fourth quarter.

9:08 PM, Still a chance: Andalusia misses a 47-yard FG. UMS has the ball on its 20 with a little more than 2 minutes left, trailing 20-14 in the 5A semifinals.

Good one in 4A: Madison Academy, Good Hope tied 28-28 with 6:50 left. MA led 21-0 in the first quarter.

8:43 PM, Lead change: Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa has rallied in the second half and now leads Saraland 10-9 with 7:32 left in the third quarter. Ethan Crawford with a 18-yard TD pass to Terrance Callaway.

Not to be outdone, Jordan Evans responds with a 78-yard kickoff return for TA. Pike Liberal leads 21-14 with 3:13 left in the first half of the AISA AAA title game.

8:28 PM, Spartan shutout: Mountain Brook trying to dethrone defending 6A champ Pinson Valley. Spartans lead 17-0 with 5:31 left in the third quarter.

8:27 PM, Injury update: According to AL.com’s Nick Alvarez, it doesn’t look like Hoover quarterback Bennett Meredith is warming up before the third quarter. Meredith, a Northwestern commit, was injured in the first half. The Bucs trail Thompson 21-3 in the Class 7A semifinals. Of note, it was Warriors QB Conner Harrell who missed the second half with an injury when these teams first played in 2021.

7:02 PM, 1 play, 1 TD: Andalusia’s Joseph Turner returns the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD. Bulldogs lead UMS-Wright 7-0. Also in 5A South, Pike Road takes a quick 7-0 lead at Faith Academy. In 4A, No. 1 Madison Academy with a quick 7-0 lead at Good Hope.

6:59 PM, Starting lineup: Shemar James announced as a starter tonight vs. Pike Road. He’s missed the last four games with an ankle injury.

6:50 PM, Still playing: Fyffe has a loss this year, which is unusual, but the Red Devils are still alive for their fourth straight title. Tonight, they host Saks in the quarterfinals.

6:45 PM, Final No. 2: Autauga Academy defeats Escambia Academy 52-35 to win the AISA Class AA title and finish 13-0. It’s the 10th AISA state title for Autauga coach Bobby Carr.

6:39 PM, He’s back 2: Thompson senior QB Conner Harrell warming up with a bandage around his injured thumb. Harrell was hurt in the first half of his team’s last game against Hoover last month. Look like he’s back tonight for the rematch.

6:36 PM, Bo knows: Injured Auburn quarterback Bo Nix is at Central-Phenix City tonight, supporting his father and brother against Auburn in the Class 7A semifinals.

6:20 PM, He’s back: Former Florida commit Shemar James is dressed and expected to play tonight against No. 1 Pike Road in the 5A quarterfinals. James sprained is ankle in the first half of a loss to Vigor on Oct. 7 and hasn’t played since.

6:14 PM, Enemy territory: Two-time defending champ Thompson enters the Hoover Met. Bucs won this game a month ago. Tonight the winner earns a ticket to the 7A title game.

5:26 PM, First state football champ of the year: It goes to Lowndes Academy, which defeated Jackson to win the AISA Class A title in Montgomery. Read all about it right here.

Noon, Another coaching vacancy: LeFlore coach Shon Burney confirmed to AL.com today that he has been relieved of his duties. Burney was hired in July. The Rattlers went 0-10 this season. Burney was outspoken about the administration’s decision to release him. Read the story here.
